ARTICLE I – NAME

The registered name of this Michigan non-profit corporation, and by which it shall be known is “First Unitarian-Universalist Church”, hereinafter referred to as “Church.”

ARTICLE II – LOCATION

The location of said Church shall be in the City of Detroit, County of Wayne, and State of Michigan.

ARTICLE III – TERM

Section 1.  Renewal of non-profit corporate status will occur annually in accordance with the laws of the State of Michigan.

 

Section 2. Should this Church membership vote to disband, any assets of the Church will be transferred to the Unitarian Universalist Association and its successors or assigns, for its general purposes, this transfer to be made in full compliance with whatever laws are applicable at the time.

ARTICLE IV – COVENANT AND PURPOSE

Section 1. The Church strives for an interpretation of religion which is in harmony with modern knowledge.  As a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association and in accordance with our traditions, we participate in the covenant to affirm and promote:

 

Section 2. The Church is chartered by the State of Michigan, incorporated in 1934 for the purpose of the study and practice of religion, the furtherance of enlightened discourse, and betterment of the Congregation and the community in which it is located.

ARTICLE V – AMENDMENTS

These Articles (The Constitution and By-Laws of this Church) may be amended at any meeting of the Church called for that purpose, provided the notice of the proposed amendments has been given in the call of the meeting and provided the quorum and voting requirements are met.
