The New Alliance

Formerly known as the Women's Alliance, the New Alliance was organized in September 2010 and meets monthly on the third Sunday after the potluck following the service.

Here are the minutes of a recent meeting, which will hopefully provide the flavor of the group:

MINUTES
THE NEW ALLIANCE 12/19/2010

Meeting was called to order 1:10pm after the potluck.

Present
Officers: Carolyn Ludwig, Pres., Elayne Sikelianos, Sec., Sandra Thottakath, Treas., Yvanne Ham, Publicity.

Also Present: Lee Thume, Mary Lou Malone, Patricia Pilafian, Rhonda Rogers, Ruth Seifert and Rochelle Jackson.

Minutes of Nov. 2010 were read and approved.

Topic: Are we paying dues to the UU Women’s Federation in Boston? President Carolyn Ludwig says “no”. Consensus is we can’t afford at this time. A motion was made and passed that we begin to charge $1 per meeting or $10 per year per attendee to build our account. We will start at our next meeting in January 2011.

Treasurer’s Report: A profit of $112 was made on Noel Night, after 20% was given to the church. The New Alliance applauded Nora Holt, Carolyn Ludwig, Mary Lou Malone and Sandra Thottakath for their time in setting up and managing the sale, both at Noel Night and the next morning at church. Sandra T. and Carolyn L. will meet with Eiko Takemoto (Past Treasurer) to get a final report of our account. Elayne S. and whoever wants to help, will sell / and or dispose of the rest of the items taken from the Alliance closet.

Topic: Theatre Tickets. Members attending the play “To Kill a Mockingbird” reported an enjoyable experience. “Of Mice and Men” will be the next play and the date is Feb. 4th at 8 pm. A $1 service charge will go to the New Alliance bank account.

Topic: We need a Vice President as Audra S. moved to Brighton. Rhonda Rodgers was nominated and voted in unanimously as our new Vice President. (Congratulations and thank you, Rhonda.)

Topic: Upcoming/Planning of Programs.
Ideas: l. Voices for Justice ( Environmental Health for Seniors) was recommended by Mary Lou Malone 2. Just Journeys – the Civil Rights spotlights trip taken by Carolyn L. and Marianna S. 3. Haiti – present day problems by Athena Kolbe 4. Art Walk – postponed to better weather time.

Topic: Giving out of future monies by The New Alliance was voted upon and halted until we have more money in our account (goal of $3,000?).
Topic: A church fund raiser was discussed regarding a concert. Elayne will explore and report back. Possible date – June 4, Sunday afternoon.
