Newsletter Articles

Please leave legible contributions in the Newsletter box located outside the church office. Please include your name and a contact number should there be any questions.
Please do not write articles on little pieces of paper or contribution envelopes, the ones that don’t get lost are very hard to read.

Your editor, along with husband Jon and Ruth Seifert will be heading for the great southwest and California on October 5th. We will be going by way of the Grand Canyon and Tucson where we will be visiting the Dickason’s. We will be gone for three weeks or so, so I will not be available to do the Newsletter for the month. Please continue to leave articles in the Newsletter box or email them to the church- NOT TO ME!

November First Friday

On November 7th we will celebrate with a Day of the Dead dinner with a few surprises thrown in. Costumes would be in order for this event. Reservations must be made by Wednesday, November 5th  by either calling the church office at 313-833-9107, calling Irene at 313-838-3348 or e-mailing Irene at the address on the front page of this Newsletter. Because we base the amount of food we purchase on the number of reservations, if you make a reservation and can’t come, please let Irene know before 9 P.M. on the Thursday before, in this case, the 6th.  If I don’t here from you, we will have to charge you.  The cost for the dinner is $7.00 per person with children 10 years old and under $3.00.  As always, children under the age of four eat for free. Please feel free to bring games (Trivial Pursuit, chess, checkers, cards, etc.) musical instruments or whatever suits your fancy. Also, when you make your reservation, please indicate if you prefer vegetarian.  Thank you.

P.S. There will be a $2.00 charge above the cost of the dinner for those without reservations and wish to join us for dinner. PLEASE make reservations.  It makes it a lot easier for the chefs.

Women's Book Club

Midtown Recycles is planning an organizational meeting on November 9th at  12:30 P.M. in McCollester Hall at First UU Church. Some work is in progress to create a voluntary, community based recycling center in the midtown cultural center area by year-end.  Grants have been prepared and submitted.  The goal would be to begin as soon as funding becomes available.  However - We would like to raise $2500.00 by November to begin the actual services.  Honest Johns and Avalon Bakery are two possible partners.  Volunteers will be needed to get this program up and running and to assist with a couple of fundraising events.  Please sign up at coffee hour or call me at 313-863-6891.  Thank you.
