“Becoming a member of the First Unitarian Universalist Church means that you are committed to the principles, values and life attitudes that Unitarian Universalism embraces. It is a public declaration that you stand with a group of people who have a liberal religious view. It is a commitment to support and encourage one's own and others' efforts to grow spiritually, and to support the congregation’s mission and vision in the wider world”.

It is the end of the fiscal year and I would like you all to know how much all the fund raising made. Entertainment Books raised $258, with about one third being sold to friends and relatives. Church members purchased the other 2/3. The plays raised $280. I’m glad to see them a success but don’t want anyone to waste their money and not go. There is a date stamped on the ticket so if you miss the performance you can go another time up to the date stamped on the ticket. The coffee hour sales brought in around $200 and made a lot of people happy with great buys. The total fiscal year raised $2008.00, with most of the money coming from garage sales. I would like to thank Mildred Robinson, Janet Thompson, Ruth Seifert, Sharlene Gage, John O’Connor, Nicole Kozub, Faye Colling, Lance Halsted, Rose LaBolle, Ivan Cotman and anyone I may have overlooked. Also, thank you to the buyers and people who participated in the sales.

The Women's Alliance will be holding their Annual Rummage Sale in September. Dates, hours and more details will be in the summer Newsletters.

Janice Berry is recuperating at home following hip surgery. She will appreciate hearing from church friends. Her address is 3 Boone Lane, Dearborn, MI 48120

Rick Robinson will be performing with his group, CutTime Players on Thursday, July 28 at 7 P.M at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial located on Lakeshore Dr. at Fisher Rd. Tickets are $12.00 and can be purchased at the War Memorial or by calling 313-881-7511. It's a great concert. Last year it was open seating. There is a dinner/concert option for $35.00 but reservations must be made before July 24. If anyone is interested, I will help organize a group activity. Call me at 313-882-7775 or email me at margretbeck@comcast.net.

A music circle will be meeting at 1st UU under the leadership of Gwen Foss. Generally, this group will meet on the 2nd & 4th Wednesdays each month at 7:30 pm. The specific upcoming dates are June 20, July 11, July 25, August 8, and August 22. The goal is to sing together, for fun, in a nonjudgmental atmosphere, on a regular and ongoing basis, and to offer encouragement to those who would like to sing a little better. All forms and styles of music are welcome, including instrumental music and original songs. You are invited to bring a few copies of the music you would like the group to sing.
