Joy Johnson, a friend of Margaret Beck and 1st. U.U. Church, gave a cash donation

because it is the date of her wedding anniversary. Juneteenth is always celebrated
at 1st. Church with a service about how the Emancipation Proclamation affected
African American slaves in the U.S. Thanks to Joy for honoring this special

First UU will open its doors to the neighborhood and nether regions for Noel Nite on Saturday, December 1. Help us put our best foot forward by attending a planning meeting in Memorial Hall on Sunday, September 23 at 12:30.
Seven people from First UU marched
with a coalition of: several people from area UU churches; the UU Social Justice
Network, MichUhcan, Detroit
Symphony Members and the American Federation of Musicians, Grey Panthers,
and others. We marched in the annual Labor Day Parade from Warren and Woodward
to Downtown. We marched for Universal Health Care. Ahead of us, and with us,
were politicians John Conyers, Carl and Sander Levin, Aldo Vagnozzi- State
Rep for Farmington Hills and others. There were many Union locals and quite
a few spectators. It was sunny and a good day for a parade.
